My name is Gerard (Jerry) O’Regan. After retiring from the U.S. Navy after a 29 year career, I began teaching high school math in Virginia. I have always loved mathematics, and really enjoyed my interactions with the students, especially in helping students overcome their fear and aversion to learning math. More than most subjects math builds on previous lessons, so my approach to teaching math is to make connections between new material and the fundamentals previously learned. Whenever possible, I also like to incorporate practical applications of the material to answer the question 'when am I going to use this?' I am now retired and living on Cape Cod in Massachusetts but hope to continue helping students on a one-to-one or small group basis.
After retiring from the U.S. Navy I worked for ten years teaching high school math in York County, Virginia. Courses taught include Algebra 1, 2 and 3, Geometry, and Trigonometry. I have taught both in the classroom (primarily) and on-line (during Covid).
