Bio

Hello! I'm Juanita Thorne! I believe that all students are capable of learning, no matter where they are - they just need to be met there. With tutoring, the goal is always to help students become their own best self-advocate, and to gain some confidence in the subject matter. I try to build relationships with students by talking about interests and reassuring them that I'm there to help them, and building that connection helps them to relax enough to ask questions and be willing to make mistakes; one of my favorite things to tell students is that "mistakes are welcome here!" They are always teaching moments!

Teaching Specialization

I have been a teacher for 11 years, a tutor for the past 20 years, and I received my degree from the University of Michigan in elementary education with a major focus in mathematics in 2012. I have always been a person who likes to help and that has prepared me immensely for tutoring and teaching. I also am very familiar with online spaces, so that makes me especially qualified to do this virtually.
