Bio
I am Elma, and the word elma means apple in Turkish language. I love to think about myself as helpful to my students as an apple can be, very healthy and refreshing for our mind and body. Very positive, kind, patient teacher who loves to teach, and has 20+ years of teaching experience. ESL teacher that believes that "what teaching methods can help ELL/ESL students can help any other student". The best teaching allows teachers to support students' strengths, weaknesses, but include students' interests. I believe that all students can learn. Every student is different, with different learning styles and needs, so it is best if we know our student and their learning needs. Motivation is a very important key, and it is important to work to reach and unlock the motivation button for the students. Small groups or one-on-one settings work better for a lot of students. Small steps toward bigger goals are something.
Teacher Specialization
I was a teacher in Bosnia & Herzegovina and an elementary school paraprofessional and teacher in Washington and Pennsylvania. I have teaching certification in WA and PA states. English as a Second Language ESL program specialist. I love to see "aha" moments when teaching. Positive relationship is very important. Students need to see that we are "on their side" and that we work to help them. My big smile, kind words, and encouragement will help a lot.
