Bio
My name is Jen and I believe that learning can and should be fun and engaging. When I am not teaching, I love to be outdoors in the Florida sunshine biking, swimming, teaching yoga or walking. Before becoming a teacher, I studied abroad in England and worked in Cape Verde, Africa in the Peace Corps. My favorite thing about teaching online is getting to know students and their families from all over the world. I enjoy engaging my students in discussions using critical thinking questions, games, and props. These strategies help me to not only teach your student but also learn more about their strengths and weaknesses allowing me to provide quality feedback after lessons. I enjoy working with all students, but teaching struggling readers is my passion. When students are able to read and comprehend independently, it gives them more opportunities to explore and learn about themselves, their community, family and world. In my classroom we will be engaged, have fun and LEARN!

While earning my first bachelor’s degree in social work, I worked as a first and second grade paraprofessional. Upon earning my social work degree, I worked as a case manager for group homes then as a school social worker for Head Start. While working as a social worker, I returned to college and earned my Elementary Education degree along with my Reading Specialist certification from Eastern Michigan University. After graduation, I moved to Florida where I began my teaching career as an elem
