Bio
Hello! My name is Ms. Chick. I know, best last name ever, right? When not tutoring, I enjoy crafting, reading, and swimming. My happy place is in the backyard hammock with Bear (cat) on my lap, Daisy (dog) by my side, and a good book in my hand. Learning should be fun, motivational, and challenging. I want my students to be curious about the world in which they live and to enjoy the struggle and success that an education invites. Teaching is my passion! My goal is to equip and encourage life-long learners. Therefore, I place emphasis on organization, planning, time management, effective study, and quality workmanship - which can all be applied in and out of school. I want my students to feel heard, to feel safe, and to feel loved. Teaching is all about relationships, and meaningful relationships flow both ways. For as much as I teach to prepare my students for life, they teach me just as much in return. Every student is a new opportunity for me to become a better teacher and human.
Teacher Specialization
I am a graduate of the University of Florida with advanced degrees in science and education. My teaching career began in 1988. Yes, back in the olden days! I have experience teaching grades 6 through college. More recently, I have been a private tutor, working with some of my students all the way to high school graduation and beyond. In addition to teaching, I have worked as a chemist, instructional designer, technical writer, and published author.
