Bio
Hello, I am Ms. Nelson! I enjoy teaching students of varying ages and cultural backgrounds. I believe that learning content and achieving academic goals are important, but so is relationship building. My teaching philosophy centers around a judgment-free, culturally relevant, interactive educational experience that develops the critical thinking skills of my students. I help my students learn content by guiding them to discover and implement the best strategies. Then, I adapt instruction to their needs. I will help you gain confidence in your abilities and your unique learning style to achieve your academic goals and develop a lifelong love of learning. This will extend learning beyond the content area. As an educator, I hold myself to a high standard and instill that expectation in my students. Outside of teaching, I enjoy cooking, traveling, music, and reading. Whether it is reading, science, math, history, or literature, I cannot wait for our session together!
Teacher Specialization
I have a BA in International Studies and hold Texas Educator certifications in Core Subjects 4-8 and English as a Second Language Supplemental. I also have training through the Texas Education Agency in the Science of Teaching Reading and Reading by Design. My eight years of experience spans Kinder through 8th grades as a General Education teacher, Reading Interventionist, Instructional Coach, Literacy Specialist, and ESL Instructor in self-contained, one-on-one, and small group settings.
