Hi, I'm Lauren- your personal reading and writing aficionado! I start my tutoring sessions by having students explain what they already understand about a topic or subject, and working with them to address any misconceptions or gaps in their knowledge. My philosophy in education is grounded in the idea that learning empowers us to take control of our lives and become active citizens of the world around us. As the unstoppable French chemist Marie Curie, once said, “Nothing in life is to be feared. It is only to be understood.” My favorite subjects to explore are literature and writing, especially poetry. I'm happy to help in your journey of learning to critically analyze texts, write compelling narratives, grasp grammar, and more! Former students have described my teaching style as "fun and helpful," and "a bit too excited about reading." I look forward to working with you!
Teacher Specialization
My love for being an educator began in 2016 and I have worked with nearly every age group since, including both elementary and adult learners. In my time as a classroom teacher, I taught creative writing, language arts, and English language development. I completed my masters degree in Curriculum Studies, during which time I developed a creative writing semester-course specifically designed to help English language learners increase their reading and writing skills. Everyone can be creative!
