Leslie C.
Bio
Hi there! I'm Leslie Casel and it is pronounced like a medieval castle! I have spent time as an archaeologist for state of Iowa digging up history and in the business sector. I have been working with students in varying ways for over 20 years coaching soccer, hosting nature centers as a Master Naturalist, and most recently becoming a teacher. My unique experience with historic artifacts and research allow me to connect social studies material to students as an experience rather than a bystander to learning. Coaching and teaching has prepared me to work with students of varying ages along with meeting individual goals. Other work opportunities in I.T. have built my ability to be technologically adaptable, problem-solving, and up-to-date on resources. I strive to meet students where they are and together develop a path to their goal that will increase their understanding and confidence as a life-long learner.
Teacher Specialization
I started out as a substitute teacher while working on my teaching credentials. I substitute taught full time while working on my credentials. My first year teaching was during the pandemic so those tech skills came in handy! I spent two years in a physical classroom and since August 2022 in the virtual classroom setting. Furthermore, I have earned a B.A. from the University of Iowa in Anthropology and Archaeology and a M.B.A. (Masters of Business Administration) from Maryville University.
