Bio

Hello! My name is Lisa Leuck, and for many years I have been known as Library Lisa in my small community. I spent many years happily sharing books and the love of reading through story times, after school programs, tutoring, and outreach to schools. I have been a tutor almost as long as I have been a certified teacher. I have a deep love of reading and literature that seems to be in every part of my life. I love teaching phonics, literacy, writing, reading comprehension and literature skills as well as the LOVE of reading to all ages. My philosophy is that reading and good books can teach skills across the curriculum. I individualize each lesson to work the core skills that each student needs to fill in gaps so that they can be more successful and have more fun with their reading. I have an energetic and personable teaching style that I feel makes all students comfortable and confident in the classroom. I believe that confidence breeds success in everything that you do.

Teacher Specialization

I am a certified English and journalism teacher in the state of Iowa, and I was a Library Director for almost 18 years. I am also a certified leadership trainer, coach, and public speaker. As a member of the Rural Library Fellowship, I created a reading project for 2nd and 3rd graders in my community that increased their reading scores by 32%. Before becoming a librarian, I had 5 years of classroom experience and many years of experience as a private tutor.
