Bio
Hi! I'm Mary de Jonge, and I live on a mini-farm in North Carolina with goats and chickens galore! My husband and I have 3 children (ages 24, 14, and 12), 4 dogs, and one very bossy cat. In addition to all of the critters keeping me busy, in 2019 I turned a creative hobby into a small side business selling artisan beaded jewelry. I believe all students maximize learning potential when they are engaged and having fun. Individualized instruction is at the core of student engagement, because all learners connect with ideas differently. I believe in the power of positive yet constructive feedback as a way to encourage and challenge students. As a Stride Tutor, I look forward to connecting with students to help meet their academic goals, whether it is by enriching and expanding on what they already know or by reinforcing key concepts. To me, the tutor-student relationship is nothing if not relaxed. While learning is serious business, that doesn't mean it can't be fun!
Teacher Specialization
I earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Radford University in Elementary Education with concentrations in English and History, and I hold a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Averett University. I have classroom experience teaching and tutoring students across all grade levels K-6. I also have experience working with English language learners and students with learning disabilities.
