Randall D.
Bio
I live in Southern Ohio near an ancient meteor strike site and near a large effigy mound built by prehistoric native Americans: The Great Serpent Mound. I have always enjoyed science and helping students understand science. My current hobbies are astronomy and inventing. I also have two pet turtles, a wife, and two sons, ages 13 & 15 that occupy my time. My teaching style is constructivist-based; I assist students in building their own explanations of the world around them rather than lecturing or offering loosely connected facts and figures. I like to "figure it out" myself as that is the way I learn best, and I like to teach in that same way. I encourage students to question and create their own understanding. Science truly is fun when you understand it! I view tutoring as a collaboration between student and tutor; we learn about each other as we learn about the subject being tutored. I am committed to your success and will work to understand how you best learn science.
Teacher Specialization
I have 40 years teaching physical science, biology, chemistry, and physics in junior high, high school, undergraduate and graduate education. I hold permanent certification to teach all areas of science in Ohio schools and am a United States Department of Energy Teacher Scientist. I hold multiple research fellowships in astronomy and astrophysics. My experience allowed me to develop successful and enjoyable teaching methods for traditional and nontraditional students.
