Bio
Hi students and parents! I love working with children and helping them develop their reading and math skills through a variety of fun and engaging activities. Do you have a favorite sport, or do you like to figure out a good mystery? If so, there is probably a good book based around that topic or genre. Don’t be afraid to share your interest with me; I will try to find literature that interest you. My goal is to plan lessons that teach the skills you need to read successfully through materials you will enjoy. This may include lessons on phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary, or comprehension; no matter the deficit, we can navigate the problem together. I have also taught math for most of my career in a self-contained classroom. My students always loved the Google Classroom projects I found for math, and I believe you will like them too. There are a number of strategies I can use to help you learn difficult math concepts. Thank you so much for your consideration!
Teacher Specialization
I have taught elementary school for eighteen years. This includes 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, and 7th grades. I also student taught in first grade. As a mother of two boys myself, I worked in the school system before my teaching career assisting teachers in the classroom as an unpaid assistant. Some teachers let me read with students, help grade papers, and even teach some science lessons. You could say I was learning to be a teacher long before I went back to school to get my teaching degree.
